Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic gastrointestinal illness with characteristic features of IBS are abdominal discomfort, bloating and altered bowel function.

Mark Pimentel, MD, FRCPC, is the Director of the Gastrointestinal Motility Program and Laboratory at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and also serves as an Assistant Professor in Residence for the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Pimentel has been awarded various investigator-driven grants related to gastrointestinal motility.
